Homesteading and Farming is not without trials and tribulations.
These last few months have been interesting to say the least…. They say what doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger. Our farm and our family dealt with a tornado that hit our farm back in August and then multiple health scares - all within the same month. When we felt defeated and at our lowest, we have managed to overcome and persevere. That’s the thing about homesteading and farming…it doesn’t matter what life throws at you. The work will still be there waiting for you. Animals are always the priority, and some of the other work has to take a back burner until you can get to it. As such, my garden has never looked so bad. I couldn’t even walk into the garden or look at it for about a month. The tornado clean up will still be ongoing for a while, but we are finally making some progress. I just started working in the garden again, and it feels good to see some of the weeds eradicated. I have high hopes for a better 2024, but if life throws us another punch-I hope to give myself some more grace! I know many other homesteaders, whether you are just starting out, or are experienced at the game can feel so overwhelmed at times. I know, we are still there, and here to tell the tale. It’s not always about having a postcard worthy farm. It’s about living. Living the life that you want, providing food (albeit from a garden that is NOT overrun with weeds) for your family and others, and trying to find your way in this Homesteading lifestyle. It can feel lonely at times, but we realized that there are so many out there that care and want to help you. I hope that this blog post can bring some encouragement to anyone who is in the trenches with us! It is worth it-the blood, the sweat, and the many tears. Keep fighting the good fight, and may your gardens be fruitful-even if they are buried in weeds!
